Victory over Lex last weekend finally saw Mountain click into gear with a six goal haul. Following that, Mountain were back on the road and faced Brymbo Victoria at Bronwen's Green. Dan Roberts was called in to deputise for the unavailable Danny Stanton between the sticks, while Owen Davies, Alex Goundrey, Jord Beck and Mark Foster all returned to the starting line up.

The Mountain were on the front foot right from the start and took an early lead just four minutes into the game. On the left, Brymbo had a throw that was met by Alex Goundrey. He headed the ball back towards the Brymbo defence, with Phil Lloyd jumping above his marker and nodding the ball into the path of Sam Jones. Jones ran through on goal and cooly stuck the ball past the keeper to open the scoring. On thirteen minutes, Jones and Mountain had their second. With the outside of his boot, Alex Goundrey hit a long ball for Jones to chase behind the Victoria defence. Jones beat the Brymbo defender to the ball and his well struck effort was well saved by the Brymbo goalkeeper. Despite the save, Jones was able to get hold of the rebound and find the back of the net.

Sam Jones was causing plenty of problems for the Brymbo defence and played a big part in Mountain's third goal on the half hour mark. Cutting inside and hitting a low shot, it was well saved again by the goalkeeper, but the ball fell kindly to Mark Foster, who had to simply tap the ball into the empty net. Shortly afterwards, Jones completed his hat-trick. Owen Davies hit a long clearance that was not cleared by the defence. Jones ran in behind, rounding the keeper and tapping in. Two minutes later, he had a fourth. On the right, Tom Carney weaved through the Brymbo challenges and passed to Sam Jones. He looked up and seeing the keeper off his line, lobbing him,seeing the ball fall into the corner.

At half time, both Mountain goalscorers were replaced by Owain Edwards and Lee Messham, followed shortly afterwards by Leon Pickford, on for Carney. Brymbo started the half well and looked to get back into the game, but Dan Roberts made a couple of smart saves to deny them. After weathering the Brymbo attacks, Mountain grabbed a sixth goal when Phil Lloyd rose high and bulleted a header past the goalkeeper from a Jord Beck corner. Brymbo did then get what turned out to be a consolation goal, taking advantage of poor marking to bundle the ball home from close range. Mountain hit straight back when Lloyd had his second, scoring from just a yard out at the second attempt.

Mountain kept going and two minutes late, had an eighth goal. Paul Williams got down the right. He reached the byline and crossed to Lee Messham, who controlled and stabbed the ball past the goalkeeper. Messham then turned provider for Leon Pickford, crossing for Pickford to head past the goalkeeper. With time running out, Pickford then grabbed his second goal. On the left, Phil Lloyd crossed to Pickford, who chested the ball before hitting a low volley that flew into the bottom corner!

Next up, Halkyn & Flint Mountain once again make the short journey to Greenfield, where we face off against them in the second round of the NEWFA Challenge Cup. Mountain picked up a 2-0 win earlier in July and will look for a similar result to take them through.
